We met with the Mowat family on a rare warm day in November. The Mowat’s decided to sell their gorgeous freehold townhouse located in Burlington privately. Being a new family, Robert and Kristin knew that they would save over $16,000 selling privately. Deciding to take advantage of saving the commission of a real estate agent would set them off to a great start on purchasing their second home.
The Mowat’s did however do their research in regards to selling their first home. They ventured the various means of selling their property, and found the Private Real Estate Website. Also seeing signs of fellow neighbours in the area selling with Private Real Estate and having success, they were very confident in filling out the online application. The online application is a short process that allows the seller to view exactly what information about their property that will be posted on the Private Real Estate website. It also allows time for one to write a good description of their property.
Richard and Kristin commented on the fact that open houses could not have been easier. With their son Kyle being two and newborn Caitlyn at three months, they needed the convenience of scheduling their own open houses as apposed to a realtor setting the dates and times. They were able to conduct their own open houses around their busy schedules. “We found that Sunday is the best day to have an open house. We had a minimum of six viewers every Sunday” proclaimed Richard.
It was the fifth week that this lovely home had been on the market, and an offer came in. The Mowat’s did however continue to conduct open houses even with a potential buyer. “You never know what the buyers stipulations are, and if the offer does not go through, then you have lost valuable time in the selling process,” said Richard. So they continued with their open houses, and on the seventh week of their listing, the home was sold.

The buyer found this property listed on the Private Real Estate website, and was able to view interior and exterior photo’s prior to viewing the home at an open house. Being able to view the property online definitely weeds out those in search of buying according to their wants, needs and financial situations.
The Mowat’s told us that they had over 1,500 visits to their website listing prior to selling and approximately 30 phone or email enquiries on their property.
“The Agreement of Purchase and Sale provided by Private Real Estate was standard and simple to fill out,” exclaimed Richard. There is also a free consultation included with a lawyer in your area provided to answer any paper work or legal questions the seller may have. We were told that the process was easy and convenient!
We asked the Mowat’s about their experiences with realtors and they said, “They are really pushy, you just have to know when to say no. It’s your house and you’re the boss, not them. Not only that, we saved thousands in selling privately!” Lastly, we questioned Richard and Kristin on the overall service of Private Real Estate, and they said “Awesome, extremely helpful and would definitely recommend the services to our friends.”
From the Private Real Estate Team, we congratulate the Mowat family on the sale of their first property, and only the best of luck in the purchase of their new home.
